Bridge belongs to mind sports like Chess, GO, and International Draughts.
Bridge is a game for 4 players
The main difference from other mind sports is that bridge is played by 4 players, sitting around the table.
We call the players according to the four cardinal directions: North, East, South, and West.
Bridge is a card game
- Bridge is played with a standard deck of 52 cards.
- There are 4 suits, each represented by a unique symbol: Spades ♠, Hearts ♥, Diamonds ♦, and Clubs ♣.
- There are 13 cards within each suit, and the highest card is the Ace, followed by the King, Queen, and the Jack. We call these picture cards "Honors". The numbered cards are ranked from 10 (the highest) to 2 (the lowest). We call them "spot cards".

Show videoHide videoBridge is a game of tricks
- A trick is a set of 4 cards, one from each player's hand, placed face up on the table.
- There are 13 tricks in one deal.
- Players play the cards one after another in a clockwise direction. We refer to the first card as the "opening lead".
- Players must follow the suit of the first card led in each trick. They do not have to play a higher one if they do not wish to.
- The highest card in the suit wins the trick.
- The player who wins the trick leads into the next one.
- If a player cannot follow the suit, he can play any card from his hand, but cannot win the trick, unless there are trumps in the game.
