Introduction to advanced hand evaluation
Hand evaluation = process of evaluating the strength of your cards.
Remember
- Standard presumption of trick distribution is 10 with honors and 3 with small cards.
- You will score more length tricks in trump contracts – 3+ LT. The honors in the short suits are less valuable.
- It would be best if you start looking at your distribution first. Hand type/pattern is the first indicator of the hand orientation and it tell us which evaluation method we should choose.
- Expected Honor Tricks (EHT) and Primary and Secondary Honors (PSH) are honor strength indicators.
- Theoretical Losers (TL) in combination with Useful Honors (UH) and Trump Adjustments (TA) are the best method if we have a fit and playing trump contracts.
